What’s on My Hook

Plus some finished items too. And, yes, I know it is Friday. But I have been working on this post for two days.

It has been over three weeks since I last posted my WIPs, but lest you think I’ve been slacking, here are some photos of what I’ve been doing.

I finished the 4-Hour Fall Sweater sample for the store, even though my own is not finished. I completed the Headband and Fringed Scarf sample for Michael’s, plus the phone cozy and Floppy Hat.  I’ve done everything but weave in ends and block my Blue Curacao. (What an accomplishment!) I had to prepare for the CAL, which meant making sure the correct yarns had been ordered, getting the pattern ready — to which I added two charts and some notes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I did work a little on the sleeveless top, but didn’t work at all on the Sara Scarf or the Liulla that I mentioned last time. I did, however, locate some matching yarn for it on Ravelry and was able to purchase it.

Then there is my little experiment with lace motifs in Sport weight yarn. A friend had this out of print book on small motifs, and she let me borrow it. I made up a triangular pattern with my cotton yarn, and I liked it so much that I thought it would make a cute centerpiece for the back of a vest. Then I started making some others, thinking to attach them a la freeform style. I haven’t gotten very far with it recently.

The one with the blue loops was very interesting to crochet. When you got to the DC row of loops, you would crochet a quarter of the way for the border, then turn and slip stitch back a ways. You make a chain loop, attach it and turn again to double crochet into it for the loop. Repeat that three more times.

I think the Doris Chan pattern inspired me. Her book that the Blue Curacao came from is called Amazing Crochet Lace. The introduction is fascinating. She tells about her mother who made designs with no pattern, while Doris had no interest in the art. However, as an adult, she picked up crochet again and experimented with what she calls exploded lace. She essentially takes motifs from lace and makes garments using heavier yarn

In the “not crochet” category, I made tons more bracelets and went to the craft show with them. I designed and published three online newsletters for The Yarn Store. All of this was done while also spending 9 hours/week at pulmonary rehab.

I also wrote, designed, and printed the new kumihimo pattern for class. My old one was from an old business, so I had to make a new one.   Eventually, I’m going to have all my patterns formatted like this. It folds in half like a booklet or brochure.

So long until next time. It might be a while because of my travels.
